Your first visit
Starting therapy is often more nerve-racking than it needs to be. Here's what actually happens.
Before your first visit
We'll send intake paperwork after you book - consent forms, a brief history questionnaire, and any screening tools relevant to what you're coming for. Complete these in advance to save time and help your psychologist arrive prepared. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, bring it.
When you arrive
Our clinic is on the second floor at 126-128 Avoca Street, Randwick (two flights of stairs, no lift access - see accessibility for alternatives). Look for the small Ivy Psychology sign. Inside, you'll find a quiet waiting area and our consulting rooms.
Our rooms and waiting areas
We have two consulting rooms - green and orange - with flexible seating (lounge, cushions on the floor, office chair, or wherever you're comfortable). Both rooms use soft lighting and natural light with adjustable blinds. We have fidget items, weighted blankets, and sensory tools available.
The first session
The psychologist will introduce themselves, explain confidentiality, and have a structured conversation with you about what brings you in, what you're hoping for, and the broader context of your life. By the end you'll have some early reflections and a tentative plan.
If it's not the right fit
Fit matters more than technique. If something isn't working, you can tell us, and we can refer you to a clinician who fits better - either within our team or elsewhere.
